1) The difference between a nation and state is that a state has leadership (a government) but a nation is more free... there are no "set rules" to it. A nation can be composed of any similaraties like religion, ethnicity, or ideas. A state has specific borders and everyone that is part of it is between those borders. My mom didn't know the difference.
In class we discussed the similarities and differences between a state and a nation.
A state is a strictily bordered area. It is always populated and it has a government, whereas (I used your favorite word!) a nation doesn't have a set location and is loosely based around the concentration of certain ideas, religious traditions, and language.
My mom was like, "What are you blabbering about?!"
Nation: 1) A group of people who have something in common. 2)Doesn't have to have a government. 3)Just the people, not the place. 4)They can be living anywhere. State: 1)People in a state don't have to be alike. 2)A place. 3)Has to have a government. 4)Has to have people in it. 5)Has a defined territory. P.S. Go on Anny's blog! It's awesome!
My mom had no clue what the difference was! She thought that their only connection was that a nation has a whole bunch of states in it. It took a while to explain to her. -Gaby Clarke, Period 7
The difference between states and nations are a state has a smaller population and may be joined together in that area by religion, race, beliefs,or even ethnicities, and a nation could possibly be the whole world or an entire continent, but a nation is a large group of people living in the same area, but may or may not have the same beliefs.
What is a state? It is a group of people who live within boundaries. In a state people do not have to have anything in common. As ling as it is made up of people, it is a state. What is a nation? A nation is not a place, but a group of people who share certain things in common such as: Race Religion Culture Ideas(i.e customs, etc.) Traditions And so on A nation is not in one certain place, but in the whole world. They are scatered along different parts of the world.
Nation: -shares on or more of the following: religion language ethnicity ideas history general area imagined community -and it doesnt have a government State: -has government -always has occupants -has clear boundaries and organized territory -population -doesnt have to have the same thing in common
they both make up a community and they both have a definate history.
This is my answer to the question........ A nation is a large group of people that is not found in one place. For example a nation of vegetarians, there are millions of us in the wold but we will never all be found in one place. To be a nation the people in it must have a shared past and a common future. The people in it might share, the same language, religion, history, ethnicity, and ideas. On the other hand, a state has clear boundaries, a government, and a permanent population. A state can be as small as Rode Island, or as big as Russia it does not matter how big or small it is, when a nation has to be very big.
heres my "state and nation" thingy mabobber. i also posted it on the cool african dance comment wall because i couln'd find the "nation vs state" thing before.
1) States have a governmental system, while a nation doesn't. States have a defined population in clear borders and boundaries. On the other hand, a nation is not concentrated in an certain area, for example, a state. It is spread out in the world, because a nation doesn't have a government to keep it in one area. A nation shares the same history, ethnicity, language, and ideas. They have common goals, unlike states because in states, sometimes there are many types of different people form different nations. For example, California is a state because it has a governmental system, there are many people in that state from different nations (white, asian, black, mexican, jewish...). And nations are cultural groups.
The difference between state and nation is a state has clear boundaries where a nation does not. A nation is a group of people that all have the same goals and beliefs when a state can be people who live in the same area, but have very different beliefs and goals. Also, a state has to be recognized by another state. A nation can still be a nation whether it is recognized by another place or not.
The difference between nation and state is that: a state has a defined population, but a nation's population is constantly changing and you'll never meet everyone in your nation because a nation can be located all over the world. Also, a state has a set up group of government, where a nation has no governmental system what so ever. In addition, a state is recognized by other states, and has defined borders. A nation, on the other hand, isn't recognized by other states, but not necissarily by other groups either. A nation has no borders. Some similarities between nation and state are that both have a shared past. Also, both of the groups classify themselves as part of that group/place. For example, you'd say that your Californian or that your Christian.

1. The difference between a state and nation is: a state has a defined population, a nation does not. A sate has a defined population while a nation does not. A nation is more fluid than a state. A sate has clear boarders.
2. They are the same: in both state/nation you can not know everyone in that state/nation They both have shared past and future. People feel connected to both a state and a nation.
When I asked my mom what the difference was between a state and a nation was she said that a state was California and a nation was the US. I said that a state was an area that people know where it is, it has a border. A nation is a non-marked area, it can be spread all around the world, for example, republicans can be a nation spread all around the world, you can't meet everyone in a nation.
1)The difference between a nation and a state is that a nation could be like all of the Irish people, or if you grew up during World War On the other hand a state is more structured and clear and has a government. but with both of them you will never meetall of the people.
A state has clear borders, boundries and population, but a nation could be anywhere in the world. It can be a nation of Jewish people or a nation of African American people.
Nation is a group of people with common belifes (ideas), goals, futures, pasts, and posibly languige, religion, and ethnicity.
ex. Jewish people. Not all Jewish people have met each other! (Iv'e only met about 6!!!) and there's no BIG meeting when all the jews come together! But the all have common belifes, goals, etc what I said above.
State is a PLACE. It's reconized by other places (or states ha ha) that it's a state. It has a government. (or in some cases a dictator that takes all of their money) State and Nation are two totally different things.
=P
I'm sorrey. It's so much fun to do totally random things while blogging. It's fun!! Anyway....yes. That is my little report on state vs. nation.
The difference between nation and state is that a state has specific borders, mixed ideas, perminate population, one area in the world, and it is more territorial. The difference is that nations have the same past, same ideas, a common future, the group can spred around the world, and it is more ideal. The similaraties are they have to have people to exist to have a state or nation. I agree with Delaney about that a nation is more free. Because a state is more tacticale and a nation is more ideal so a nation can change easier than a state. I also argee with Haley that a state has to stay in the same area because they have strict laws and government.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A NATION AND A STATE STATE a. has a defined population b. has a government c. is noticed by other states d. clear borders NATION 1.is a cultural group 2. a shared past/common goal 3. share religion, ethnicity, language, history, and ideas
Nation State Difference- No borders Defined Borders Similarity- You may never know everyone in your nation or state Difference- No "set" rules Clear Governmental System
A nation is wide-ranged and does not contain all of the same beliefs, ideas, religions, and language. A nation also does not have to contain a government. A state has a dominant leader and has strict borders enclosing it in a certain area. Although not cut off from each other, states are not as lenient as nations.
My mom didn't understand that a nation does not have to have government to be considered a nation.
There are many differences between a nation and state. For starters, states always have a government while nations do not necessarily have one. A state also has defined boundaries and always has occupants, while members of a nation can be spread across the globe. While a state is defined by an area, a nation is an agreement of a group on belief, language, ethnicity, and so on. However, some similarities include that both a nation and a state have a community (in a nation, it is often imagined) and both have a definite history and a shared future.
The difference between nation and state is that a nation does not have defined borders or a defined population while a state does. You will never know everyone in your nation or state. My mom didn't know the difference either.
The differences between state and nation are that state always has occupants, has its own government, and a distinct border. Meanwhile, nation has an ethnicity, religion, language, history, ideas, imagined community, and general borders. The similarities between nation and state is they both have ideas, a type of border, both have history, and both have a general area.
There is a huge difference between nation and state. First of all, a state has clear geographical boundaries and a nation does not. Also, a state has a clear number of occupants, but a nation shares its history. Another fact about a nation is that it does not have to be in the same area. State also has a clear government and shares the same territorial space. The thing about nations is that the boundaries can always change but when a state is declared the boundaries never change.
The difference between nation and state is that in a nation, the people must have something in common, but in a state, the people do not need to have anything in common. Also, a nation does not have a defined place or fixed government while a state has both of the above. A state has a permanent population, is known by other places, and has clear borders( or an organized territory), and a nation people inn the nation that usually have political goals, and have a religion, ethnicity, language, history, ideas, a general area, and an imagined community in common. In comparison, both a nation and a state usually have a definite history, speaks one language, believes in one religion, makes up a community, and shares a general area. Overall, nation and state have many similarities and differences.
The difference between a nation and a state is that a state has clearly defined borders, always has a population, and has a string government. A nation only has to be a group of people that have one or more things in common, A naition does not need a government, and the people do not ahve to be living the same place.
State and Nation are 2 very different things. A state is a place within a place that is made up of more state the create a nation. A nation place that has different states inside of it. A nation technically doesn't have boundaries it's just a state that does. Someone can say that the nation border is here but the other person can say that the border is some where totally different. My point is that a state and a nation are two very different thing.
P.S. My mom tried to figure out the difference and told me that I was WRONG!☹ but I was right in the end.☺
In my option state and nation are two very different things. State: State is just an area of land that is known to other people. However a state doesn't have any meaning, it is just an area of land. Nation: Nation is also an area of land identified my another place. Hover, nation has meaning to the people. People their generally have the same ideas and ways of living among many other things.
A nation according to the book is like an "imagined community", which means that it is like a community but not in one central area. One member of a nation could live in South Africa and another could live in L.A. as long as they shared the same religion, ethnicity , language, ideas or history. Also in a nation People have to have at last one thing in common unlike a state. Lastly a nation doesn't have to have a defined territory.
state
A state has a government. It also always has to have occupants. A state has a defined territory and or clear boundary's. Finally Everyone in a state doesn't have to have anything in common.
States and nations are similar and different in many ways. Firstly, states have clearly defined borders, while nations can be widely spread out. Also, nations have the same ethnicity, religion, language, and ideas, but states can be completely diverse. Furthermore, states have the same single government, while nations could have completely different governments. In general, states contain people who live in the same area, whereas nations contain people who have the same beliefs.
Note the "whereas" in the last sentence. You said in class a few days ago that that was your favorite word. I'll be expecting extra credit for using it:).
States are politically organized areas with strong boundaries. Nations, however, have no boundaries and are simply connected to the land. People within a Nation have a shared past and a common future.

Anny phrased it well
Thanks fer the advertising, Logan.
My mom had no clue what the difference was! She thought that their only connection was that a nation has a whole bunch of states in it. It took a while to explain to her.

I have this sudden urge to correct my spelling...
I said "strictily" instead of "strictly".
I apologize for posting this.
Nation: A nation is a group of people who don't have to be defined by borders, that share religion, language, or ideas.
State: A state is always occupied, has a government, and a defined physical border.
The difference between states and nations are a state has a smaller population and may be joined together in that area by religion, race, beliefs,or even ethnicities, and a nation could possibly be the whole world or an entire continent, but a nation is a large group of people living in the same area, but may or may not have the same beliefs.

Nation:
a group that relates to each other and uses that to create their identity
they can be spread around the whole world
a nation is harder to destroy than a state because it doesn't exist physicaly
State:
has a government
clear borders
set population
exists physicaly
All in all a nation is a lot looser and less clear than a nation
States are politically organized areas with strong boundaries. Nations, however, have no boundaries and are simply connected to the land. People within a Nation have a shared past and a common future.
I've already seen this in reality, my father took me there.
